After Mercedes made the push into the premium pickup truck market rumors appeared that BMW could be the next to follow the same steps. What’s more, the information from BMW Australia has surfaced that brand is already exploring that possibility. The analysis has been happening and high BMW official commented: “never say never”. In that context, it seems now that if Mercedes’ X-Class proves to be successful, BMW wouldn’t likely lose its chance.
Still, BMW’s truck seems far from production and BMW might even launch the concept version first in order to see the response from the market. However, how would the 2019 BMW Pickup Truck look and what solution BMW might apply? There are reports that already suggested several possibilities and we can already see some renderings on the Internet. What is sure, the BMW Pickup would be a great addition to the segment and even better with the performance version.
2019 BMW Pickup Truck: Possible Design
We know that Mercedes entered the pickup market with the platform borrowed from the Navara Pickup Truck and reduced the time and cost significantly with such decision. BMW has several options in that regard and the platform could the biggest concern for the brand.
One solution for the BMW is the partnership with Toyota and BMW may borrow the platform from some Toyota’s Pickup Truck such as the Tacoma. BMW will use Supra’s platform for the Z5 roadster and the truck could be the next deal.
However, BMW might also decide to go with the SUV-based pickup truck version like the Honda Ridgeline. In that case, reinforced platform version from brand’s big SUVs would be the solution. That would provide great driving comfort and handling.
On the other hand, if the 2019 BMW Pickup Truck would be close to the production it would use styling elements from brand’s latest SUVs. The split kidney grille design and headlights designed in the same manner like on brand’s newest models would identify this truck as BMW’s. It would also have similar body lines as BMW’s large SUVs and would adopt the mid-size cargo bed.
Interior, Equipment:
In-cab design would also be the familiar form of brand’s newest models. The dashboard design and arrangement would be similar and the available equipment would mimic brand’s SUV models.
There would be high-mounted center display with the latest infotainment features and possibly digital instrument cluster option. BMW would also offer premium material options and many luxuries which can be found in brand’s SUVs. The truck would also be equipped with the modern safety systems.
2019 BMW Pickup Truck: Powertrain options
If BMW would launch the 2019 BMW Pickup Truck soon, the truck would likely miss the US market. So, the truck would likely offer both diesel and gasoline powertrain options. BMW could use many options ranging from four-, six- to eight-cylinders. Both 3.0-liter turbodiesel and equivalent V-6 petrol options would surely be on the offer. BMW would also attract many buyers with performance version which could adopt V-8 turbocharged mill.
The transmission unit will surely be the 8-speed automatic. BMW truck would have all four wheels powered.
2019 BMW Pickup Truck: Arrival, Price
BMW’s truck is still far from the reality but we shouldn’t exclude that possibility for the next decade. Especially, if the Mercedes X-Class rates well, BMW might also join the game.
