Chevrolet recently debuted the fully-redesigned light-duty Silverado 1500 and the new version is a more modern looking truck, lighter, techier, more refined and also powered by the turbodiesel engine. Chevy also announced the return of the Silverado 4500 and 5500 models. On the other hand, the three-quarter ton 2019 Chevy Silverado 2500HD will be the next version of this model but it will arrive with some changes in the equipment range only. Chevy upgraded the diesel engine and air intake system for the 2017 model year. The model also received changes in the equipment range.
The 2019 version will return with the familiar styling and power options. The model will again be available in three cab styles and variety of customization options. The next big upgrade will be in 2020 or 2021 when we should expect changes inspired by the recently all-new light-duty Silverado 1500.
2019 Chevy Silverado 2500HD: Design
Chevy redesigned the light-duty Silverado 1500 with more chiseled lines, softened fenders, slimmer headlights and lighter body panels. Similar recipe, Chevy will apply to the heavy-duty models for the next upgrade but the 2019 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD will return in the familiar form.
The horizontally oriented front end will get special treatment of the grille and bumper in each trim version and versions with the turbodiesel engine will also have the scoped hood. The base versions will include chromed bumpers and 17-inch wheels. Upper trims will receive larger alloy wheels, body colored bumpers, fog lights, etc.
The truck will return with the long and standard cargo bed versions and regular, double cab and crew cab bodies.
Interior, Equipment:
Inside the cabin, the three-quarter ton Silverado will present itself with durable materials, supportive seats, plentiful storage compartments, big and easy-to-use controls. The truck will be available with vinyl, cloth and leather upholstery. Chevy will also offer versions with automatic climate control, power and heating features, premium sound system, ventilated seats, a sunroof, off-road package and lots more.
On the safety front, some desirable features will be available but more systems will arrive with the next upgrade. The truck will exploit lane departure warning, forward collision warning, rearview camera, etc.
2019 Chevy Silverado 2500HD: Power options
Powering the 2019 Silverado 2500HD will be the same engine options as in the current version but Chevy might again try to drain more torque from the diesel engine to outperform Ford’s Super Duty models.
The base engine will come in the combination with the six-speed automatic transmission. This engine will likely stay at the current power and torque levels. The 6.0-liter V-8 unit can produce 360 hp and torque of 380 pound-feet. The gas-powered Silverado will be the payload chap with up to 3, 550 pounds.
The 6.6-liter turbodiesel V-8 will own the towing title with up to 18, 000 pounds in some versions. The current version of this engine can make 445 hp and torque of 910 lb-ft. Chevy combines this engine with a heavy-duty Allison six-speed automatic. However, Chevy might again improve torque rating to again regain the torque champ title from the Ford.
Arrival and Price
The 2019 Silverado 2500HD will hit the market in late 2018. The model will again be available for around $34, 000 and reach $60k in the top-spec version.
