Chevrolet equipped the mid-size Colorado with several upgrades for the 2019 model year. The truck gained the updated infotainment system and high-definition rearview camera but Chevy introduced also the off-road oriented ZR2 Bison model with the hardcore off-road hardware. The model previewed at the 2017 SEMA show reached the production with the unique styling and for the off-road gear Chevy got the help from American Expedition Vehicles.

With the ZR2 Bison model, Chevy has the rival for the recently reintroduced Tacoma TRD Pro version while Ford said that the Ranger Raptor isn’t in brand’s plan for the launch in the US.

The Bison ZR2 is skilled off-roader and the model builds upon the capable Colorado ZR2 with the additional equipment designed for the rugged terrain duties. The model employs the ZR2’s front and rear locking differentials combined with the Multimatic DSSV shocks. The wider track and 2.0-inch lifted suspension improve also the off-road capability while additional skid plates protect valuable gear. The truck uses also Autotrac transfer case and upgraded rear axle. The knobby, all-terrain tires have also the role in the off-road adventures.

The 2020 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison will likely return with two engine options but Chevy reportedly considers the turbocharged engine. A 3.6-liter V-6 will power the ZR2 Bison with 308 hp and torque of 275 lb-ft. Chevy will also offer a 2.8-liter Duramax turbodiesel with 181 horsepower and torque of 369 lb-ft. The transmission units will include the 6- and 8-speed automatics.

The model comes also with the AEV steel front and rear bumpers and special Boron-steel skid plates. The truck possesses also recovery points and the possibility of the winch installation.
