
The Ford F-150 and other F-Series models continue their perennial domination in the US market and the Blue Oval Brand handles to stay in front of the competition. Although the F-150 has just got the redesigned GM and Ram light-duty rivals, Ford redefined the boundaries in this segment much earlier. The US best-seller was redesigned for the 2015 version and recently refreshed for the 2018 model year. Ford also dieseled its aluminum-intensive light-duty truck and now prepares its next step, the hybridization.
Ford revealed its plan for electrification of its car lineup including the trucks. The brand will invest more than 10 billion to bring to the buyers 40 electrified vehicles with the different nameplates by 2022. Among them, Ford promised the hybridized F-150 which will start the production in 2020. This model will be produced at Dearborn Truck Plant. So, Ford could launch the hybrid version as the 2020 Ford F-150 hybrid and the same model year should also bring refreshed Raptor version. Ford hasn’t revealed much about the future F-150 hybrid and the prototype hasn’t also been spotted on the road. However, Ford promises that the hybrid version will be capable to get you to the job site and power it as well.
2020 Ford F-150 hybrid: Design
There are no many details about the design of the 2020 Ford F-150 hybrid yet and the prototype version hasn’t also been seen while testing to give us some insight into model’s design. However, the hybrid version isn’t expected to differ much from the recently refreshed version and it will surely keep the current shape and aluminum-intensive body shell and proportions. It will also continue with the rigid, high-tensile steel chassis.
The difference will make unique grille design although it will likely keep the current basic shape. The hybrid versions will also get unique exterior accents and appropriate badging.
Interior, equipment:
The cabin of the hybrid version is also expected to be familiar form. Ford won’t make radical changes to model’s interior compared to what we getting in the latest model. The truck will be equipped with the latest infotainment system and features and will get the unique interior theme.
The electrified version will also be guarded with the newest safety technologies. They will advance from the current level when this version arrives. It is not clear will Ford offer this version with all cab styles and trim options.
2020 Ford F-150 hybrid: Powertrain
Ford upgraded the engine range of the F-150 for the 2018 model year. The 3.3-liter V-6 is the new base engine. The newest F-150 also relies on the improved 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 and 5.0-liter V-8. The 3.0-liter Power Stroke V-6 diesel is also the part of the family with the fuel economy around 30 mpg highway.
The powertrain of the 2020 Ford F-150 hybrid is still a mystery. But Ford promises to bring better efficiency and to use the versatility of battery in different ways. Ford will likely combine the two-motor system with the V-6 engine for the truck application. In the current hybrid models, Ford uses this setup with four-cylinder combustion engines.
The electrified F-150 will bring improved fuel efficiency which could provide up to 50 percent better ratings. However, Ford will use the battery to power the electric motors but its utility will also be used to power other components on the job or camping site.
2020 Ford F-150 hybrid: Arrival, Price
The 2020 Ford F-150 hybrid will go into production in 2020. So, it could miss the 2020 model year. The price is still far to be known but will be significantly above the base version.
