After the introduction of the all-new Ram 1500 and Chevy Silverado 1500 and the new GMC Sierra to come soon and not to forget the return of the mid-size Ranger, we can conclude that the 2019 model year is the year of trucks. But not the year of the heavy-duty models. GM presented the redesigned light-duty Silverado and the all-new Sierra 1500 will soon take off the wraps. The 2500 and 3500HD models will, however, follow with the redesign later, sometimes at the beginning of the new decade.
Having said that, we should expect the three-quarter ton 2500 and one-ton 3500 model with some changes in the equipment offer and organization. The 2019 GMC Sierra 2500/3500HD will return with the pair of two V8s and six-speed automatic gearboxes. The number of available configurations will again be almost uncountable with three cab styles, different bed lengths, an array of trims, single or dual-rear-wheel setup, etc.
2019 GMC Sierra 2500/3500HD: Design
While we should expect that new generation of the GMC heavy-duty models to come with lighter construction, softer body sculpting, new front and rear fascias, new lighting units and overall appearance which will distinguish them more from Chevy’s equivalents, the 2019 GMC Sierra 2500/3500HD will return in the familiar form.
The 2017 model year added the hood-mounted intake while the Denali trim sports the new grille for the 2018 version. The 2019 model year won’t bring notable changes and we should see the new wheel and color options.
The models will come in three cab styles and they will be combined with the standard and long cargo bed options. The grille pattern will change depending on the trim option as well as the level of the chrome, black or body colored elements.
Interior, Equipment:
Inside the cabin, we will also encounter the familiar design. The level of comfort will depend on the cab versions and trim option. The material quality and level of advanced tech will also vary depending on the trim level.
The entry-level models will come with the cloth upholstery, rearview camera, a 7-inch infotainment interface as an option, 17-inch wheels, etc. The upper grades will add upgraded IntelliLink infotainment system, fog lights, alloy wheels, chrome elements, dual-zone automatic climate control, upgraded upholstery, etc. Active safety systems such as lane departure warning, forward collision warning, parking assist, etc. will also be available.
2019 GMC Sierra 2500/3500HD: Powertrains
As for the engine options, the 2019 GMC Sierra 2500/3500HD will again come with the pair of V8s. The base gas-powered engine will return in the pair with the six-speed automatic transmission. The 6.0-liter V-8 makes 360 hp and torque of 380 pound-feet.
A 6.6-liter turbodiesel V-8 will get the heavy-duty version of the six-speed automatic gearbox. It will lift the capabilities of this truck to the next level with 445 hp and massive torque of 910 lb-ft.
The 3500HD model will have an option for the dual-rear-wheel setup. This version will have the trailering capacity of up to 23, 300 lbs while the payload maximum will exceed 7, 100 lbs. The 2500HD version will be able to tow up to 18, 100 lbs and carry slightly above 3, 500 lbs.
