2020 Land Rover Defender Truck

A much-anticipated and extreme off-road capable Land Rover Definer is getting closer to the official reveal and the all-new version will hit the market as the 2020 model.  The boxy-shaped SUV will return to the US soil after the brand axed exporting in 1997 while globally, the last generation was discontinued in 2016.

The all-new Defender promises to stay loyal to its rugged roots providing the extreme off-road capability while improving the interior refinement and ride quality. The disguised test models reveal also the slab-sided exterior style with the visual cues from the newest Jaguar Land Rover Models. The new-generation Land Rover Defender will also come with various powertrain options as sources claim and the brand has also the electrification of the iconic SUV in the mind.

However, the new Land Rover Defender version should also spawn a wide range of shapes and body styles. The new Defender was already spotted in two forms including the short wheelbase, two-door Defender 90 and long wheelbase, four-door Defender 110.  There are no many pieces of evidence yet but the 2020 Land Rover Defender Truck version is also possible. The truck Defender 130 version could also follow later in the life cycle but the brand should also launch the SVR and SVX variants among others.

2020 Land Rover Defender Truck: Design

The latest photos of the new Land Rover Defender prove that brand applies the mixed-strategy for the new generation version. The redesigned SUV will keep its boxy silhouette and mix it with the cues from the modern Range Rover and Land Rover models. The models will have an upright stance with sharp edges and lines combined with the brand’s modern styling language.

The slim, horizontal grille will look similar to that of the new Discovery and Discovery Sport and the models will also adopt the new LED headlights and taillights. The tall, flat hood and bumpers plus wide fenders will also define the new Land Rover Defender. The signature air vents behind the front fenders will also be on the model like on the recent brand’s SUVs.

The 2020 Land Rover Defender Truck version would also share the same styling pattern but with the modified wheelbase and design to accommodate the cargo bed. It should be a similar distinction between the SUV and truck versions as between the Wrangler SUV and Gladiator truck version.

Interior, equipment:

The modernized Defender will also get the new, more refined cabin with the new dash design and smart technologies combined with the comfort features.

The horizontally-oriented dashboard layout will mimic the design seen on the brand’s latest SUVs. The model will integrate the large infotainment screen with the available digital instrument cluster. The beefy, multi-functional steering wheel will also borrow the design from the newer Land Rover versions. The model will also provide a number of the comfort and tech upgrades including the active safety equipment.

2020 Land Rover Defender Truck: Powertrains

The new Land Rover Defender will remain on the list of the most off-road capable models but the new version will also provide better ride quality and efficiency. The new, mix-material platform will improve the model’s toughness and reduce the overall weight. The models should also come with the upgraded independent suspension setup which would improve the ride quality while the off-road rig and angles will provide the all-terrain capability.

The test mules of the new Defender have been equipped with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine and in the production form, the model should also use the same displacement in both petrol and diesel versions. The engine range should also include a more potent 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 option and brand has also hinted some kind of the electrified version. The mild-hybrid 48-volt could also be part of each powertrain.

The models will also employ eight-speed automatic transmission and two-speed transfer case. The new generation versions will also augment the all-terrain capability with the modern all-wheel drive, terrain management and traction control technologies.

The 2020 Land Rover Defender Truck, if hits the market, should also use the same engine options as the SUV range.

2020 Land Rover Defender Truck: Release, Price

The all-new Defender will have the market launch in 2020 and the pickup style version could follow later. The price range should start above $50, 000 for the SUV versions with a higher starting point for the possible 2020 Land Rover Defender Truck.
