With the recent launch of the first mass-production lifestyle pickup truck, Mercedes filled one of the rare gaps in its diverse range of vehicles and now has the rival for the likes of Nissan Navara, VW Amarok, Toyota Hilux, etc. The premium-branded truck has a lot to offer from the sleek styling and high-quality interior to the latest tech features and of course great capability and flexibility.
Mercedes recently boosted the range of the engine options for its ute with the new most-powerful X350d and the new V-6 diesel beats the equivalents from the rival models at this moment. That would likely be the most significant upgrade to the model while the 2020 Mercedes X-Class won’t do much on its mechanics and design. However, we should expect more upgrades in the technology segment and likely more standard equipment. Mercedes might also launch the special edition version to get more attention.
2020 Mercedes X-Class: Design
As probably almost everybody knows, the Mercedes X-Class isn’t just the child of the German giant as this project was developed with the Nissan-Renault Alliance. And the popular Nissan Navara is especially important here as the X-Class shares the chassis, some body elements, turbodiesel engine and four-wheel drive system and more with it.
However, Mercedes was very successful in hiding the Navara-derived platform and parts behind the sleek body. The model has the macular front end with grille and headlights design familiar from brand’s SUVs. The profile is sleek and with the subtly sculpted fenders. The rear isn’t also something new in the market and comes with the sleek tailgate and vertical taillights.
The 2020 Mercedes X-Class will keep all of aforementioned while the new color options, wheel design and a new exterior theme will open new options.
Interior, equipment:
Inside the cabin, the story will also stay familiar. The design borrows plenty from the brand’s SUVs and the center stack comes with the 7-inch display and below with the signature air vents. The system will come with the updated features and the truck will also offer plenty of another tech systems.
The truck was crash tested and earned the five-star rating. It will offer systems like the automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, sign recognition, tire pressure monitors, surround vision but Mercedes might add several missing systems for the new model year as well.
The buyers will also have a chance to upgrade the material and luxury level in upper grades and get the leather adjustable seats, leather surfaces, automatic climate control, 19-inch alloys and more.
2020 Mercedes X-Class: Powertrains
The Mercedes X-Class has wider tracks than the relative Navara pickup and Mercedes also applied its solution with the different springs and dampers and all should mean more comfortable ride.
As for the engine options, the things will remain familiar for the 2020 Mercedes X-Class version. The decision will be between two versions of the 2.3-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engines both with the Nissan’s roots.
The X220d version with the single turbocharger will provide 163 hp and torque of 403 Nm. Additional turbo in the X250d version will improve to 190 hp and torque of 430 Nm. The manual transmission, seven-speed automatic and four-wheel drive from Nisan will also do for the X-Class.
A recently added x350d model will boost the performance further. A 3.0-liter V-6 from the Merc’s part bin will make 258 hp and torque of 550 Nm. The automatic transmission and permanent four-wheel drive will be Mercedes-branded in this case as well.
2020 Mercedes X-Class: Arrival, Price
The 2020 Mercedes X-Class will go on sale in a later phase of 2019. Depending on the market the price will change slightly.
