Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is again in the game in the full-size pickup segment in the US with its fully redesigned Ram 1500. The redesigned half-ton Ram is a huge step forward and relevant rival for the best-selling Ford F-150. However, for the buyers who need additional muscle, a ¾-ton Ram 2500 will bring greater towing and hauling capabilities. This truck was all-new for the 2010 model year and FCA is also expected to bring fully redesigned heavy-sizers soon to go against recently all-new Ford Super Series.
However, the 2019 Ram 2500 won’t be the all-version of this truck and the new-gen model should arrive for the 2020 model year. The heavy-duty Ram prototype was spotted recently with thick wraps on the body panels which seems to hide early-stage testing model. The new-gen Ram 2500 is expected to follow the similar pattern as the redesigned Ram 1500 regarding the styling and interior and to offer similar engine range as the current version. The 2019 version will, however, return in the familiar form with some minor changes in the equipment range.
2019 Ram 2500: Design
Visually the 2019 Ram 2500 will remain the near twin of the current generation Ram 1500 while the redesign will bring similar styling as on the recently revealed new-gen Ram 1500. So, we will again see the crosshair grilles on the heavy-duty Rams which will likely be discontinued after the redesign as on the light-duty Ram 1500. The macular body lines will also be softened and the mix of modern and lighter materials will be used for truck’s structure and body panels.
The 2019 version will return in three cab styles and with two cargo bed dimensions. Expect the same range of trim options with some shuffling in the equipment organization and few new options.
Interior, Equipment:
The cabin of the 2019 version will be familiar story while the new generation will bring notable upgrades. The design of model’s interior is also similar to the fourth-generation light-duty version. The trucks boast great ergonomics and well-organized and easy-to-use controls. The Uconnect infotainment system is also the bright side of FCA’s trucks.
A wide range of trim options will cover everything from the base working machines to high luxurious versions. The truck is, however, missing the most advanced safety systems. FCA will surely address this aspect with the arrival of the redesigned version.
2019 Ram 2500: Powertrain options
Powering the 2019 Ram 2500 will be the same engine options while some changes are expected for the redesigned version. The base engine will remain a 5.7-liter V-8 but Ram might discontinue this option for the new-generation model. This engine delivers 383 hp and torque of 400 pound-feet.
Additional muscle will provide a 6.4-liter V-8 engine which is smooth and strong performer but also on the thirstier side. This engine comes in the combination with the six-speed automatic gearbox like the base version. It can produce 410 hp and torque of 429 pound-feet.
The 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel six-cylinder will come in two versions. Paired with the six-speed manual gearbox, this engine makes 350 hp and 660 lb-ft of torque. Connected to the six-speed automatic this oil-burner delivers 370 hp and 800 lb-ft of twisting.
2019 Ram 2500: Release date, Price
The 2019 Ram 2500 will arrive in the second half of 2018. The price range will have a similar starting point from around $33, 000.
