FCA has done a great job with the recently redesigned half-ton Ram 1500 pickup truck and as a result, the model already improved its position on the sales chart. For years Chevy Silverado followed the best-selling Ford F-150 but the things changed in Ram’s favor and in the first quarter of the year the new, slick Ram 1500 is in front of the half-ton Chevy with more than 120, 000 units sold. The Ram 1500 accounted for a 15 percent increase while Chevy decreased the sales for almost 16 percent compared to the same period last year.

The new Ram 1500 earns attention with slicker styling and high-tech interior. The fifth-generation model increased also towing and hauling capability while improving efficiency. The redesigned light-duty Ram benefits also from the reduced weight and more efficient powertrains available with the mild-hybrid technology. The new Ram 1500 can also be everything from the work-oriented machine to a luxury appointed everyday vehicle with almost car-like drive manners.

However, for those who don’t aspire to be seen in the flashy, high-value truck yet need a capable machine with just necessary features and a bit more should choose the entry level 2020 Ram 1500 Tradesman and save thousands while still getting a modern and capable truck. The 2020 Ram 1500 won’t bring much new for the next model year except the diesel unit should appear. There should also be some changes in the equipment organization and the addition of new color options.

The 2020 Ram 1500 Tradesman will reappear in the same form as the current, redesigned version which is available as the 2019 model alongside the previous generation Ram 1500 Classic models. 

Like every new Ram 1500, the Tradesman version sits on new, reinforced chassis while weights less than the previous generation model. The models benefit also from the sleeker exterior style and the brand ditched also the crosshair grille design.

The Ram Tradesman won’t highlight its presence with the extensive use of chrome or beefed up suspension and tires. The model will appear with the black treated grille and bumpers and steel wheels. The 18-inch steel wheels will come with the all-season tires and the model will also use automatic headlights and daytime running lights. The black tubular sidesteps will be available as well as a deployable rear step.

Interior, Equipment:

Inside the cabin, the Ram Tradesman will provide necessary features. There will be well-placed controls combated with durable materials.

The model will come with vinyl upholstery and flooring and offer cloth upholstery as an option. The features list will also include air conditioning, heated and power mirrors, speed sensitive power locks, remote USB port, a locking tailgate, trailer sway control, cruise control, a rearview camera, etc.

The optional features will include towing mirrors, satellite radio, CD player, a folding rear seat, etc.

The standard equipment will also be a Uconnect 3 infotainment system with a 5-inch screen and integrated voice command.

For the 2020 model year, a 3.0-liter diesel engine should appear but 2020 Ram 1500 Tradesman will likely continue to be available with the current engine options.

A familiar 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine with eTorque upgrade will be standard on all versions including the entry-level Tradesman. The engine will provide 305 horsepower and max torque of 269 lb-ft available from 4800 rpm. The mild-hybrid systems boost the low-speed acceleration and adds 90 lb-ft of torque.

The Ram Tradesman will also be available with a 5.7-liter V-8 HEMI engine with or without the mild-hybrid system. The engine delivers 395 horsepower and peak torque of 401 pound-feet. The eTorque system smooth the performance with an additional 130 lb-ft of torque. 

Both engines will be in the mix with the 8-speed automatic transmission. The rear- and all-wheel drive will also be available as well as an electronic rear locking differential. The truck should tow up to 11, 530 pounds while the payload limit should be at 1, 880 pounds.

With the standard V-6 engine and mild-hybrid system, the model should return 22 mpg combined with two-wheel drive and 21 mpg with the all-wheel drive. With the V-8 unit, the score should be 17 mpg combined or 19 mpg combined with the mild-hybrid system employed.

The 2020 Ram 1500 Tradesman will be the most budget-friendly version with the starting price around $32, 000. The on-sale date should be in 2020.
