The all-new 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 was the star of the 2018 Detroit Auto Show alongside with other redesigned truck models. The new-generation, light-duty Silverado has been redesigned from the ground up and promises to be a relevant competitor to the best-selling Ford F-150 and also all-new Ram 1500.
The redesigned Silverado boasts new, modern styling and also comes larger and in the same time lighter. The new truck also has redesigned interior packed with latest technologies and offers eight trim levels. An improved underpinning combined with a modern mix of materials and reworked engine options promises better performance and fuel efficiency thanks to the new fuel management technologies. What’s more, the next-gen Silverado 1500 will also offer 3.0-liter turbodiesel option.
2019 Chevy Silverado 1500: Design
The fully redesigned 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 changes the way it looks to more chiseled and more modern form. The front end of the model comes with narrower headlights and new grille and bumper design which comes with unique finish depending on the trim level.
The profile of the model also has new character thanks to dynamic character line and resculpted fender flares. The rear side will also arrive with new taillights and first power tailgate with embossed Chevrolet name.
Structural upgrades:
More important than visual upgrades are under the skin. The new light-duty Silverado sits on the fully boxed ladder frame made from 80 percent high-tensile steel. The new frame is stiffer and 88-pounds lighter. The restyled body of the truck is also stiffer and Chevy used high-tensile steel for the bed and aluminum for the hood, doors and tailgate. The new mix of materials results in 450 pounds less overall weight while Chevy also claims 7 percent better aerodynamical efficiency. The new truck is also longer for 1.6 inches and rides on the 3.9 inches longer wheelbase.
Interior, Equipment:
Interior of the model is also fully redesigned although it isn’t much different form. What’s important, the cabins are more spacious and crew cab models now offer 43.8 inches of legroom. There are also large storage bins under the rear seats and in rear seatbacks.
Equipment wise, the new Silverado will come in eight trim options. The base trucks will have black exterior trim and cloth seats but also a 7.0-inch touchscreen interface. Upper trims will bring larger wheels, LED headlights, chrome exterior details, upgraded 8-inch interface, leather seating, power tailgate, etc. The Z71 off-road package will also be available as well as active driver aids.
2019 Chevy Silverado 1500: Powertrains
Chevrolet hasn’t yet revealed full details about powertrain options. However, the 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 will offer six powertrain combinations.
The new truck will return with the 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter V-8 engines. This time engines will use cylinder deactivation technology for better fuel efficiency. The fuel management system can deactivate one to seven cylinders to save fuel.
For the first time, the Silverado 1500 will offer a 3.0-liter Duramax branded turbodiesel engine. A 10-speed automatic transmission will also boost truck’s performance.
