The GMC Canyon Is a fancier mid-size workhorse than more conventional Chevy Colorado. Two models share the same platform and running gear but the Canyon adds more upscale features combined with flashier styling. The high-value Denali trim is the signature of the model as well and it maximizes the creature comforts and equipment availability.
The brand updated the latest version of the Canyon with the new infotainment system and offers Apple Car Play and Android Auto in all versions. As for the next 2020 model year, the recent reports don’t promise any significant upgrade. While we expected earlier the refreshed styling and possible introduction of the turbocharged petrol engine, the lack of the test mules on the road and leaked details suggest that there won’t be major improvements before the next redesigned probably in 2021. The top-tier 2020 GMC Canyon Denali won’t also change much on its portfolio but GMC could add some of the missing active safety systems.
2020 GMC Canyon Denali: Design
We saw recently the all-new, light-duty and heavy-duty GMC Sierra models with the upgraded structure and more modern styling. However, it seems now that the mid-size GMC Canyon won’t get a modernized styling until the next redesign sometime around 2021.
The GMC Canyon distinguishes itself from the mechanical twin Chevy Colorado with the more eye-catchy grille, unique body sculpting and fancier wheels. The 2020 GMC Canyon Denali will build on that with the unique Denali grille treated with the chrome and mesh pattern. The model stands out also with the LED signature lighting and chrome fog bezels. More chrome can be seen on the door handles, side steps, mirror caps, etc. The 20-inch ultra-bright, aluminum wheels with attractive spoke design are also unique for this model.
Inside the cabin, the 2020 Canyon Denali will provide premium comfort and tech features combined with attractive material patterns.
The model comes with the leather treated seats that are also heated and ventilated. The heated steering wheel is also the part of the deal as well the perforation on the seats, dashboards and other surfaces. The wood trim also improves the interior impression.
The Denali trim brings also the latest infotainment system with smartphone compatibility as well as navigation, Bose sound system, Wi-Fi, etc. The safety equipment will include rear park assist, forward collision alert and lane departure warning but the new model year could also introduce automatic emergency braking.
2020 GMC Canyon Denali: Powertrains
The new 2020 GMC Canyon Denali will likely remain to get the power from the same engine options. No signs that GM is bringing performance upgrades or the new turbo-4 petrol engine.
The Canyon Denali will use a 3.6-liter V-6 petrol engine bolted to the 8-speed automatic transmission. The engine uses direct injection and active fuel management system and will produce 308 hp and torque of 275 lb-ft.
A 2.8-liter Duramax turbodiesel four-cylinder engine will be torquier and more efficient alternative. This engine will come in the package with the 6-speed automatic transmission. The power and torque ratings should be at 181 hp and 369 lb-ft respectively.
2020 GMC Canyon Denali: Release, Price
The 2020 GMC Canyon Denali should start around $40, 000. The on-sale date should be late in the year.
